Built for the NHS ecosystem

OLAS connects with existing NHS systems to reduce duplication, enable seamless shared care, and improve patient continuity.

Healthcare data shouldn't live in silos. OLAS integrates with core NHS systems to pull referrals, push diagnosis letters, update GP records for shared care, and maintain a single source of truth. This reduces administrative burden, improves patient safety, and supports the NHS ambition for joined-up care.

Key integrations

GP Systems

EMIS & SystmOne Integration

OLAS integrates with the two dominant GP clinical systems in England—EMIS Web and TPP SystmOne—to enable bi-directional data exchange for shared care arrangements.

What it enables:

  • Read patient summaries: Pull relevant medical history, allergies, and current medications from GP records (with consent)
  • Write shared care letters: Automatically send diagnosis letters, treatment plans, and shared care agreements directly into GP systems
  • Medication updates: Update GP records with titration outcomes, dosage changes, and medication reviews
  • Reduce duplication: Clinicians see a complete picture without re-entering data or chasing paper letters
Roadmap

Integration in development. Technical feasibility validated with NHS Digital and GP system vendors.

Referrals

NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS)

OLAS accepts referrals directly from the NHS e-Referral Service, reducing manual re-keying and enabling patients to book appointments online through the NHS e-RS portal.

What it enables:

  • Accept referrals automatically: Incoming e-RS referrals create new patient records in OLAS with all referral details
  • Appointment slot publishing: OLAS can publish available appointment slots to e-RS for patient self-booking
  • Referral status updates: Automatically update e-RS with appointment details, assessment outcomes, and discharge status
  • Reduce admin: No more manual transcription of referral letters or chasing missing information
Roadmap

e-RS integration planned for Q3 2025. UBRN (Unique Booking Reference Number) workflows validated.

Shared Care

Automated GP Shared Care Letters

When a patient reaches stability or is ready for GP-led shared care, OLAS automatically generates comprehensive shared care letters with all required clinical information and sends them directly to the GP practice.

What it enables:

  • Structured shared care agreements: Generate letters that include diagnosis details, medication history, titration notes, and monitoring requirements
  • Direct delivery: Send letters via GP system integrations or secure email/NHS Mail
  • Audit trail: Track when letters were sent, delivered, and acknowledged by GP practices
  • Consistency: Standardized letter templates ensure GPs receive complete, actionable information

Interoperability standards

OLAS is designed with future NHS interoperability standards in mind, ensuring compatibility with evolving national infrastructure and data exchange requirements.

HL7 FHIR

OLAS architecture is FHIR-ready, preparing for adoption of HL7 FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) as the NHS standard for data exchange.

SNOMED CT

Clinical terminology aligned with SNOMED CT where applicable, ensuring consistent coding for diagnoses, medications, and clinical observations.

NHS Number

NHS Number used as the primary patient identifier, enabling safe and accurate patient matching across NHS services.

NHS Mail

Secure communication with NHS organizations via NHS Mail, ensuring confidential clinical information is transmitted safely.

Why integration matters

Reduce admin burden

Automated data exchange eliminates hours of manual re-entry, phone calls to GP practices, and chasing missing information.

🎯

Improve patient safety

A complete, up-to-date view of patient history, allergies, and medications reduces the risk of adverse events and medication errors.

🤝

Enable seamless shared care

GPs receive structured, complete information for safe shared care arrangements—reducing their hesitance to take on prescribing responsibilities.

📊

Better continuity of care

Patients benefit from joined-up care where all clinicians have access to the same information, avoiding repeated questions and fragmented journeys.
